Method

This tea cosy is quite thick.  I used two strands of DK and 4 mm needles.

Make 2 pieces and sew them together leaving a gap for the spout and the handle.

Cast on 33 stitches and work 4 rows reversed stocking stitch starting with a purl row.

Continue in pattern

1st row : Knit 1, *next stitch –  wind yarn twice round needle (W2), purl 5; repeat from * to last 2 stitches, W2, knit 1.

2nd row: Knit 1, *yarn forward (yf), slip 1 purlwise (s1p), yarn back (yb), knit 5;  repeat from * to last 2 stitches, yf, s1p, yb, knit 1.

Repeat these 2 rows until 32 rows have been completed.

Shaping rows :

Work pattern as usual in between shaping rows, reducing the number of stitches between the W2 stitches accordingly.

33rd row : k1, *W2, p2 tog, p1, p2 tog, repeat from * to last 2 sts, W2, k1

39th row: k1, *W2, p3 tog; repeat from * to last 2 sts, W2, k1

41st row: k1, *k3 tog, p1; repeat from * to last 4 sts, k3 tog, k.1

42nd row: k1, *pick up horizontal loop lying before next st and purl into front of it, k.1; repeat from * to end of row.

43rd row: k.1, *W2, p.1; repeat to last 2 sts, W2, k.1

44th row: k.1, *yf, s1p, yb; repeat from * to last st, k.1.

45th and 46th rows:  as 43rd and 44th rows.

Cast off in rib.
